Trade Policy
Imports of item under HS code 2515 and 2516 are restricted. Thus, a licence is required for imports of the these items, or imports are permitted under any Public Notice issued. However, imports of alabaster whose HS code is 25152010 is freely importable. Imports of items under 6802 and 6803 are freely importable.

Industry Policy
Granite industry is a non-scheduled industry and hence entrepreneurs are only require to submit Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum. Looking at its export potential, the government of India has been encouraging setting up of 100 per cent Export Oriented Units in this sector to promote exports of granite products.

Tariff-non-tariff Policy
The basic duty for all the items falling under HS code 2515 is 30 per cent and 4 per cent special additional duty. Besides, 30 per cent additional duty is levied on marbles in slabs and tiles manufactured with the help of power, otherwise nil. Rs.30 per square metre is levied on marble slabs and tiles cut or sawn in India with aid of power and electromotive force used exceeds 10 horse power. Items under 2516 attract 35.2 per cent imports duty which includes a basic duty of 30 per cent and a special additional duty of four per cent. Products falling under HS code 6802 and 6803 carry an import duty of 56.83 per cent which includes 30 per cent basic duty, 16 per cent additional duty and four per cent special additional duty.
